The "great" detective 5 Star MacGuffin arrives on the scene! Join him and his elf sidekick, Pillie, as they work together to try to catch a psychopathic killer. Will they solve the case before it's too late?
The creators, FlowingCheech and MrShoeShine7, collaborated to compete in the first Newgrounds Jump comic competition. The requirements were simple: create a one shot comic book within a 3 month timeframe. Unfortunatley, they were unable to complete a one shot for the contest.
Afterwards, they decided to continue working on the comic regardless of the competition. Without a deadline in sight progress was slow, however the first 5 sketched pages of the comic were made public on April 2nd with the announcement: "This is a collaborative effort with MrShoeShine7 and myself! This was intended to be a submission for the Newgrounds Jump Contest but unfortunately we weren't able to make it in time. As a result, instead of scrapping the project, we have decided to continue working on it so it can be the best it can be. Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoy the preview!" It wouldn't be until June 28th 2025 where the second Newgrounds Jump competition would be announced, unexpectedly within the same year. The two artists picked up where they left off, to finish the comic for the new deadline.
On September 1st the comic was published, just minutes before the cutoff. The next day the neocities website was created for the free to read comic book. 5 Star Macguffin was another issue in the pile, but a long 8 month journey for the creators.
